Generally, clunky-in-attack, the Cleveland Browns' quarterback of the present, fought back claims his attitude was holding the franchise back, namely as a deterrent to landing big name coaches.

According to various reports Wednesday, Freddie Kitchens will be promoted in Cleveland after a strong showing as offensive coordinator in the second half of the season. She says signs are pointing to that outcomes. "They know how we played at the end of the season, especially offensively", said Mayfield following the Browns' Week 17 loss against the Ravens regarding the coaching search. The 29-year-old does, however, only have two years of coaching experience, 2017 as a graduate assistant with San Diego State University, and this season with the Browns. In eight games with Kitchens as OC, Mayfield threw for 2,254 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions and was sacked just five times. Kitchens' hiring makes him the ninth full-time coach with the Browns since 1999 and 11th including interim coaches. It appears he did enough to impress the front-office tandem of John Dorsey and Paul DePodesta and will come away with the job. "Cleveland and I get along well".

It was reported by Cleveland.com that the Browns already reached out to some of the coaching staff, asking them to stay. Jones is a Bruce Arians disciple. Cleveland has been a desert for stability at the head coach and quarterback positions over the last two decades, but with one draft pick in 2018 and one coaching hire in 2019, that all may change.
