So what are 181-year-old stalwarts like John Deere and Procter & Gamble doing at the world's largest technology show? Lora Haddock, the CEO of Lora DiCarlo, says that makes for a double standard at the tech show already under fire for not including enough women.

A sign for the annual Consumer Electronics Show is seen in Las Vegas, on January 6, 2015.

Lora DiCarlo (a company owned by Lora Haddock) was awarded the CES 2019 Innovation Awards in the Robotics and Drones section for the Ose personal massager.

But a month later they were informed by the administrators at CES and the CTA that the award had been rescinded, and that they would not be allowed to showcase the product, or even exhibit it at CES 2019.

"The product does not fit into any of our existing product categories and should not have been accepted for the Innovation Awards Program", a CES spokeswoman said in an e-mail statement on Tuesday.

"It seems to us that products that are explicitly allowed for men in an explicit sexual nature are allowed more of a pass than products that are geared toward female pleasure and female sexuality", Haddock said. A robotic massager created to give women killer orgasms without involving men doesn't exactly fit, as CTA said, in that category.

OhMiBod, another sex toy company, has shown products for years, and won top honors, also in 2016, for the Lovelife Krush, a device for tracking kegels to help women suffering from pelvic floor pain.

These two companies are first-time exhibitors, along with missile-maker Raytheon, outdoorsy retailer The North Face and the 115-year-old motorcycling icon Harley-Davidson.

Apple has long made plenty of noise about its stance on privacy, with the way competing companies vacuum up our data something the Cupertino tech giant is never shy of pointing out.

Her decision to skip the event came several days after Ajit Pai, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, and several other scheduled federal government speakers told CES they wouldn't be coming because of the shutdown.

'From the exclusion of female founders and executives to the lack of female-focused products allowed to exhibit on the floor - there are demonstrable issues with diversity'.

The annual convention runs until Friday, and is expected to be visited by more than 180,000 people.
