Apple's traditionally restricted its software and services to its own range of hardware.

Make sure you head over to Apple's website for an up to date list of TVs that will support AirPlay 2. Opening up iTunes to Samsung TVs means that Samsung television users no longer need to purchase an Apple TV set-top-box to access Apple content.

In a surprise announcement, rivals Samsung and Apple chose to team up and bring the iTunes movies and TV Shows app to Samsung's Smart TV range in 100 countries.

More deals like the Samsung smart TV agreement and Vizio and LG AirPlay agreements could put to rest doubts that industry analysts have expressed about the viability of Apple's video streaming service. Individuals screens could be combined to create massive displays, which the company calls The Wall TV.

Samsung Electronics said Sunday that it will add an app to its smart televisions in the coming months to let owners watch content bought on Apple's iTunes service, a possible first sign Apple is looking to distribute its forthcoming television service on devices made by others.

She said that was in part a "generational" difference, but also called out Trump for language he has used. "I'm proud of you", he said.

Samsung and Apple have a weird history. But they also represent Apple's growing reliance on service revenues as device sales level off.

"For Apple, this suggests a change in focus of making its services available on rival platforms rather than tightly integrating it into its own devices". Beyond that, LG/Vizio TVs will support Apple HomeKit, so you'll be able to control certain functions from iOS.

Support for iTunes and AirPlay will be available on 2019 models of Samsung Smart TV from this spring and will launch on 2018 models via a firmware upgrade. Likewise, the Q900 includes Samsung's new AI Remote with Bixby for voice control, along with Amazon Echo and Google Home compatibility.

The Samsung announcement comes as Apple ramps up its plans for original video content to compete with the likes of Netflix and Amazon, as well as new streaming players like Disney. The division - which also houses the App Store and Apple Pay, as well as Apple Music and iCloud subscriptions - brought in $10 billion in revenue last quarter.
