"Our air defenses fired on hostile targets over the Kisweh area and downed them", SANA said, citing a military source.

According to Abdel Rahmn, two Israeli missiles hit al-Kiswah, where he said there are "weapons depots belonging to the Lebanese Hezbollah [terrorist group] as well as Iranian forces".

The Israeli army said a missile was sacked at the Golan Heights, but that it remains unclear whether the projectile fell in Israel.

In addition, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit reported shortly after the start of the attack in Syria that Israeli aerial defense systems identified at least one Syrian missile heading towards an open area of the Golan Heights.

However, speaking to Reuters, an Israeli military spokesman rejected the RIA report as "bogus".

The Syrian regime claimed its air defense systems shot down all "hostile targets" late Thursday.

The Russian government said the 17 September incident - in which 15 Russian crew members were killed - only took place because Israel was conducting air strikes against Syrian targets at the time.

The Israeli warplanes hit Thursday night Kisweh, near the Syrian capital.

Once a regular occurrence, reports of Israeli airstrikes in Syria have become increasingly rare in the past two months, after Syria accidentally shot down a Russian spy plane during an Israeli raid, which Moscow blamed on Israel.

Iran and Russian Federation are the government's key allies in the civil war that has raved Syria since 2011, and Moscow's intervention in 2015 dramatically turned the tables against the rebels.

Speaking after the talks, Russia's Syria negotiator Aleksandr Lavrentyev said the committee was of utmost importance.

The side behind the attack is not yet clear, but Israel has repeatedly targeted military positions in Syria, including in Kisweh.

There was no evidence however that the S-300 batteries were used to intercept Israeli missiles overnight.
