After Pakistan's initiative to open the Kartarpur Corridor on the 550th birth anniversary of Sikhism founder Baba Guru Nanak next year, India last week had agreed and chose to build the Kartarpur road corridor up to the border with Pakistan.

He said the construction of the corridor will stand completed before the next birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak in November.

The comments came hours after Prime Minister Imran Khan, laid the foundation stone for Kartarpur border corridor that connects India's Gurdaspur district to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib located in Pakistan.

"The moment Pakistan stops terrorist activities in India, the dialogue can start but the dialogue is not connected with only the Kartarpur corridor", Indian media quoted her as telling reporters in Hyderabad ahead of the groundbreaking on the Pakistani side. Back in 2014, Modi invited then Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to his swearing-in ceremony and later visited him in Pakistan on his birthday in December, 2015.

The fact that India and Pakistan have agreed to open the Kartarpur corridor shows that despite the typical mood of confrontation between the countries, reconciliation is possible.

After his return, Sidhu said that Pakistan Army chief Gen Bajwa had told him that Pakistan may open a corridor to Kartarpur Sahib.

In a post captioned "With sedu pa g", Sidhu is seen standing beside Chawla, who is one of the prominent voices seeking a separate homeland for the Sikh community. Guru Nanak, who founded Sikhism, used to live in this area.

Chairman All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has welcomed the opening of the Kartarpur border crossing saying, the goodwill measures between India and Pakistan are welcomed by the people of Kashmir.

Manafort lied after guilty plea, Mueller says, and should be sentenced immediately

Imran Khan said India and Pakistan need more steps like this (Kartarpur Corridor) for peace in the South Asian region.

Politicians on both sides have hailed the decision as an impetus for peace between the two countries that have fought several wars in their seventy-year existence.

A few months after rejecting Pakistan's proposal to open the Kartarpur corridor, however, the government in India has now suddenly approved plans to open a visa-free corridor for Indian Sikh pilgrims to visit Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan.

"The more people meet, the more they realise how much in common we have, and what we are missing by not resolving our outstanding issues." he said.

Two union ministers - Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Hardeep Singh Puri - and Punjab minister Navjot Sidhu attended the ground-breaking ceremony of the Kartarpur corridor in Lahore.

The corridor was first proposed by India around 20 years ago.

Pakistan has been described by analysts as suffering from magnificent delusion, but in reality it is India that is delusional if it went into the Kartarpur initiative thinking that it could be seen in isolation and independent of the state of larger bilateral ties. The ties between the two countries had strained after the terror attacks by Pakistan-based groups in 2016.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) while responding to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's reference to Kashmir in his yesterday's address has termed it regretting and said it was an attempt by Pakistan PM to politicise a pious event.
