Mass Shooting Reported At Borderline Bar & Grill In Thousand Oaks, California

Multiple people have been shot after a gunman opened fire in a bar in Thousand Oaks, California.

Ventura County Sheriff's Office Captain Garo Kuredjian said it is "still an active scene".

He added that police were dealing with an "active situation", meaning it is not known if the attacker has been subdued.

This is a developing story.

The Ventura County Fire Department confirmed just after midnight that there had been reports of "multiple injuries" at the bar.

About 30 shots were fired with a semi-automatic weapon, the Ventura County Office and California Highway Patrol said.

Witnesses tell ABC News that a man fired several shots from a handgun before tossing smoke bombs and starting to fire again.

The Times reports that there were multiple reports of shots fired and people hit.

Officials said hundreds of people, most of whom college students, were inside the establishment at the time of the shooting, according to KABC.

Another witness said he saw a security guard being shot as well as a female cashier, before he also fled.

Dozens of police cars and emergency service vehicles were spotted at the scene in Thousand Oaks around 11.20pm local time on Wednesday.

People gathered near the scene of the shooting, hugging and crying as red and blue lights from police cars flickered in the background. The extent of the victim's injuries has not yet been released.
