Controversial scenes of 'Sarkar' cut, AIADMK relents

The AIADMK protesters had demanded that the movie not be screened till the controversial scenes, which they alleged were an insult to the late AIADMK Chief J Jayalalithaa, were removed from the movie.

Madras High Court on Friday restrained Tamil Nadu police from arresting "Sarkar" movie director AR Murugadoss till 27th of November. "So the issue has come to an end". Also a woman character's name, apparently referring to the late AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa, was muted after backlash from the ruling party workers.

The AIADMK's objection was to the scene that showed the actor throwing out mixie and grinder - given free by the government to the poor - into the fire.

"We have nothing to do with the film or Vijay", Raju said describing the star as a "dear friend".

In the meanwhile, actor Varalaxmi Sarathkumar - who plays the role of Komalavalli in the film - also took to Twitter to share her opinion.

The film with Vijay and Keerthi Suresh in the lead roles, was directed by AR Murugadoss and the music was set to tune by Oscar victor AR Rahman. Head of the Tamil Nadu Theatres Association Abirami Ramanathan confirmed to TNM about the cuts carried out in the movie.

If the grapevine is anything to go by, "Sarkar" team has agreed to mute scenes that have been termed controversial. However, Sun Picture is yet to make an official statement regarding the same.
