It seems destiny has other plans for one Rick Grimes. More than anything, Rick's purging is an opportunity for AMC to let go of tradition and chart a new path for The Walking Dead, as it discovers how to fill the void left by Andrew Lincoln's immensely talented boots.

After the show had finished and Lincoln's fate had been revealed, fans took to Twitter to share their sadness. However, other cast members were much more succinct, with Alanna Masterson (Tara Chambler) suggesting, "Go f-ck yourself" and Christian Serratos (Rosita Espinosa) proposing a simple "Badass".

Another said: "My family is laughing at me, because I'm literally sobbing".

But hey, no need to write any eulogies just yet, as it turns out you can't keep Mr. Grimes down.

Rick Grimes has officially starred in his last The Walking Dead episode - sort of. "I don't think anyone's going to step up and be Rick", he said.

This week's big swan song for Andrew Lincoln and the Rick Grimes character he's played since 2010 turned out to be not quite the death finale some thought it would be given how people usually leave the series.

Eddie Jones backs Owen Farrell to avoid citing
Imagine if Theresa May comes out and says: "'We got the result because we hung in there.' I don't think that's going to happen". Two Farrell penalties kept England in touch before a long-range Elliot Daly kick gave Jones' men the lead.

Amazon Jumps in With Its Own Holiday Free Shipping Offer
Target last month raised the stakes for the all-important holiday shopping rush, offering USA customers free two-day shipping. That leaves Walmart as one of the only remaining e-commerce giants requiring a purchase minimum for free two-day shipping.

Houtis Attack Saudi airbase with Drones in Retaliation to Riyadh's Bombing
Friday's assault comes two days after the United States called for a cease-fire and negotiations within 30 days to end the war. More than seven million children face a severe risk of starvation, according to the same source.

And another tweeted: "im still crying!"

"We dove into this idea of the 'third man phenomenon, '" Kang told the site.

"It's not the beginning of the end, it's the end of the beginning. After I stop feeling sad, of course". Lincoln was showered with love and praises leading up to his character's departure; Maggie got nothing (except a disappointing resolution to her quest for vengeance against Negan).

The first film is expected to begin production as early as 2019.

Regardless of how it turned out, What Comes After was always going to be the most significant episode of The Walking Dead season 9, and arguably the entire show to date. Viewers were told that the episode would feature Grimes' last stand, so many were expecting him to finally meet his maker. It's the best thing, it's incredible the show - awful idea. "I know nothing! [Laughs.] There are lots of moving parts to this extraordinary franchise". I've mostly heard the reaction that people were relieved that they didn't have to watch Rick die because he's been such an inspiration for so many people and so many millions of fans around the world.
