Amazon Plans to Spread Second Headquarters Across Two Cities

But the Washington Post is reporting that the online retail giant is seriously considering Crystal City in northern Virginia.

Amazon's final decision could be announced this month, the WSJ reported.

The Journal cited an anonymous source as saying that Amazon decided that dividing its second headquarters between two locations would spread the economic benefits as well as burdens - such as pressure on housing and transportation.

And now it ends up Amazon may decide on creating an HQ2 and HQ3. In early 2018, it released its list of 20 finalists.

A new report suggests that Amazon's highly sought-after HQ2 won't go to one city, but two.

The Washington metropolitan area was long considered a top contender for Amazon's second headquarters.

Amazon laid out a variety of requirements for the location of its new headquarters, including proximity to an worldwide airport.

Amazon also reportedly felt that a split would expand the pool of computer engineering talent available for jobs.

In January, Amazon said it will spend $5 billion in the place where it builds its second headquarters and will employ 50,000 residents.

Bezos himself said last week that he'd make the final decision guided by intuition: "You immerse yourself in that data but then you make the decision with your heart", he said at a conference in NY last week. The Journal story came a day afterThe Washington Post reported that the Virginia suburb, located smack dab between the Pentagon and Ronald Reagan National Airport, was engaged in advanced planning for HQ2, down to specific buildings and employee moving plans. Amazon has promised to make its selection this year.
