The Shake It Off singer also urged her followers to register to vote in the upcoming midterm elections, causing 65,000 new voter registrations in just 24 hours.

"Vote.org saw [Tennessee] registrations spike specifically since Taylor's post", Guthrie said. Guthrie reports that vote.org has received a total of 5,183 registrations in the state to date - 2,144 of which came in during the last 36 hours. As of noon Tuesday, less than 48 hours after Swift's post, more than 169,000 new people had registered on the site to vote, said spokeswoman Kamari Guthrie on Tuesday. But first you need to register, which is quick and easy to do. There's a perfectly logical reason for that: A day earlier, Trump announced that he enjoys Swift's music "25 percent less" than he used to, citing the pop star's recent endorsement of the Democratic candidate in Tennessee's senate race.

"These are not MY Tennessee values", Swift wrote.

Bredesen, a former Governor of Tennessee, thanked Swift for her endorsement on Twitter, writing that he was "honoured" to have her support.

"Marsha Blackburn is doing a very good job now in Tennessee".

When asked whether she thought Swift's decision could sway voters, Blackburn said she believed her constituents cared more about who supported her.

President Trump, naturally, weighed in on the matter: "I'm sure Taylor Swift doesn't know anything about [Blackburn]".

In October 2016, 405,000 people registered on Vote.org, the largest age group being people in their 30s, said Raven Brooks, the website's chief operating officer. Tumblr, a social network known for its fostering of intense fandoms, young user base, and generally progressive leanings, is a hive of Swift activity, and one that she is relatively active on.

On Sunday, Swift endorsed Democrats Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives.

"[Blackburn's] voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me", wrote Swift.

The worldwide superstar had always remained quiet on the subject, with many people believing that she was in favour of President Donald Trump.
