Chaos Erupts As Caravan Reaches Mexico Border

About 4,000 migrants have reportedly fled Central America to escape poverty and violence.

"Republicans are fear-mongering about a migrant caravan to boost midterm turnout" said a Salon headline, while CNN noted, "Mother in caravan: Trump has to receive us".

"It is an illegal activity", said Ambassador Luis Manuel Lopez Moreno, adding that more than 100 migrants had been allowed to cross the bridge to apply for refugee status, including some who were from the caravan and others who were not.

"Ebrard, Mexico's incoming foreign minister told local radio that he was not surprised by Trump's comments". Those seeking asylum or some other form of protection can request it but must wait in a migration centre for up to 45 days, officials said, and those who try to enter illegally will be detained and deported.

"Foreign Secretary Videgaray and I have talked about the importance of stopping this flow before it reaches the US border".

After US President Donald Trump made several threats to cut foreign aid to Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador if they did not halt the migration caravan, he applauded Mexico for sending troops to the border.

"I must, in the strongest of terms, ask Mexico to stop this onslaught - and if unable to do so I will call up the US Military and CLOSE OUR SOUTHERN BORDER!"

Mr Trump blamed the migrant crisis on the opposition party, the Democrats, branding its immigration policy "weak".

Earlier this year, Trump's criticism turned a migrant caravan into a spectacle, with day-by-day media coverage of the journey. Mexican Federal Police released a video of officers arriving in the border state of Chiapas, some toting riot gear.

Much of the outcome on Saturday will hinge on how Hazard is going to deal with his marker on the day. A match I want to do well in for my players, my team and my supporters, that's what I want.

"We're going to take care of our relationship with the United States government", he said.

But experts on refugees say those moves are unlikely to stop this caravan or stem future ones, since the migrants are primarily driven by conditions in their home countries, not USA policy.

On Friday, Scalise, who survived a politically-motivated shooting in 2017, said "it's obvious" Trump was not "encouraging his supporters to engage in attacks" during his Thursday night rally. He has long pushed economic development as a way to keep people from migrating, and on Wednesday he reached out again.

Trump spoke with the incoming Mexican president earlier this month and claimed that "we will work well together".

"Honestly, I want to get to the states to contribute to that country, to do any kind of work, picking up garbage", he said. Migrants are already piling up at checkpoints on the Guatemalan-Mexican border.

He also threatened to send in the U.S. military to "CLOSE OUR SOUTHERN BORDER!" and keep out "MANY CRIMINALS" among the migrants.

On Thursday, Trump branded the migrant caravan an "onslaught" and an "assault on our country" in a series of typically fiery tweets. She said she thought Trump's proposal to construct a border wall between the United States and Mexico would be "expensive" and "ineffective" at stopping immigrants.

"Well, we're looking at a lot of things", he said.
