Attorney For Deborah Ramirez: FBI Failed To Contact Witnesses

"Kavanaugh stood up under oath and lied about his drinking and about the meaning of words in his yearbook", Roche wrote in an op-ed published in Slate.

James Roche, the Yale roommate of SCOTUS nominee Brett Kavanaugh also mentioned by Kit Winter, the gay man who talked with NY magazine about his experience rooming with Kavanaugh, appeared on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 last night.

He told Cooper he had gone back and forth on whether to speak out - "there is very little upside for me and there is considerable downside for me" - but that "at the end of the day it feels like there are not enough people who are willing and can credibly say" they know Ramirez "and she didn't lie and wouldn't lie".

University professor Christine Blasey Ford has said Judge was a witness when Kavanaugh allegedly sexually assaulted her at a party in 1982-when they were high school students in Maryland.

Roche had previously issued a statement ahead of the Kavanaugh-Ford hearing in which he expressed support for Deborah Ramirez, one of the accusers, and said he remembered Kavanaugh "frequently drinking excessively and becoming incoherently drunk". People drank a lot, I drank a lot then. He said, "I believe her because it matches the same story I heard 35 years ago, although the two of us have never talked".

The letter, which came after the FBI concluded its latest background investigation into Kavanaugh, calls out the FBI for failing to attempt to corroborate the claims made by Ramirez.

It appears he will not be given the opportunity, however.

After Kavanaugh's testimony last week, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered an FBI investigation under pressure from a handful of Senate Republicans and set a deadline of Friday for the probe's completion.

Meanwhile, a one-time classmate of the Supreme Court nominee said Monday that Kavanaugh was a habitual heavy drinker-challenging the judge's Senate testimony.

"We were in a room together - our beds were 10 feet apart for a couple of months", Roche told CNN.

"But I did not drink beer to the point of blacking out", he said.

Scheuerman says at least one of his classmates can corroborate Ramirez's story, but also hasn't heard back from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

One of the most important former classmates of Kavanaugh is Kenneth Appold who is now a professor at Princeton's Theological Seminary.

Kavanaugh also offered some information about Roche that was redacted from a transcript of the interview, after he was asked what reason Roche might have to lie about him.

In the Slate op-ed, Roche notes he was raised in a Republican family - his mother was a Republican state representative in CT and "my father owns a MAGA hat". In his 12 years on the federal bench, Judge Kavanaugh has produced ample evidence of his judicial temperament. "We drank too much in college as well".

"I don't think that's disqualifying", he said.
