Winds up to 45-50 miles per hour, heavy rainfall, and rip currents will be likely along the Gulf Coast from Northern Florida all the way to Louisiana Tuesday through Wednesday.

The seventh tropical storm in the Atlantic has officially been named. The center noted that tropical-storm-force wind gusts will be possible today across portions of South Florida and the Florida Keys. At the start of August, hurricane experts at Colorado State University said that conditions in the Atlantic - cooler than average ocean surface temperatures and varying wind speeds in the atmosphere - have diminished the chances of a hurricane striking the USA during the remainder of the hurricane season, which goes until November 30. There is a high risk of rip currents so swimming is not recommended.

Forecasters expect Gordon to strengthen over the Gulf of Mexico this week. This will be a system that could cause heavy rains and some flooding.

ABC11 Morning Meteorologist Don "Bigweather" Schwenneker said another disturbance near the Bahamas could develop into a system over the next few days, but Florence's impact remains far off.

Wind: tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area by Tuesday night and Wednesday. Gordon is expected to produce rain accumulations of 4 to 6 inches over southern Alabama, southern MS and Louisiana, with some isolated areas receiving up to 8 inches, through early Thursday.
