Conservative judge Brett Kavanaugh appeared set to sail through Senate confirmation for the vacancy on the nation's top court until a California professor publicly accused him of having sexually assaulted her when they were teenagers nearly four decades ago. On Monday, Grassley asked Ford to appear before the committee next week in order to testify regarding these allegations.

Trump's oldest son posted a fake "sexual assault letter found by Dems", written in crayon, that says, "Hi Cindy, Will you be my girlfriend?"

However, Senator Chuck Grassley, chairman of the Republican-dominated judiciary committee, said Tuesday that Ford's presence was not confirmed.

The president assailed California Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein for not disclosing the allegations when she first learned of them in July.

The mystery is why Ms. Ford's pitiful effort on behalf of her party has erected a roadblock to Kavanaugh's confirmation.

President Trump said Wednesday that her performance in that hearing could determine whether he stands by his embattled nominee. All these Kavanaugh defenders are suggesting Ford is a liar because she doesn't remember the exact date of "the party in question".

Through her lawyers, Ford said she wouldn't speak to the committee until the FBI investigates the alleged incident, which occurred while Ford and Kavanaugh were in high school.
