A steady stream of insane from the White House

And to make matters worse for the president, September 5 saw the publication of a New York Times op-ed that was anonymously written by a senior Trump Administration official and expressed his or her extreme frustration with the president. "The incidents are not anonymous, it gives a date, it gives a time, who participates, most often the president himself and what he says".

In particular, he highlighted an instance in which Trump complained to Defense Secretary James Mattis and other staff at an NSC meeting about the expense of USA forces overseas.

President Donald Trump teased that he might write a book of his own about his presidency. And given how norm-busting Trump's presidency is - in terms of his relationships to the media, to his own party, to policy - it's also hard to avoid making mountains out of everything, even those things that might be molehills.

But while Trump has begun a furious hunt through the corridors of the White House to find out who wrote the New York Times piece, the internet has had a more humorous response. But in 2013, Trump tweeted in defense of Woodward's reporting about the Obama White House and, just four weeks ago, in a recorded phone call transcribed by CNN, he told Woodward "I think you've always been fair".

Woodward told Guthrie today that the sources he quotes who are denying their words are now "not telling the truth".

But in the book, a copy of which was obtained by the Guardian, Woodward pre-empts Trump's charge about anonymous sources.

US President Donald Trump spooked the Pentagon leadership with a tweet that - had it been sent - North Korea would have read as a sign of an imminent US attack, journalist Bob Woodward said in an interview that aired Sunday.

Alibaba co-founder Jack Ma, China's richest man, to retire
The New York Times is blocked in China by Communist Party censors and there was no official statement from Alibaba on Saturday. The co-founder of $420the billion internet company, Jack Ma, has announced that he will be retiring from Alibaba on Monday.

Woodward says Trump drafted a tweet which said the U.S. would remove families of troops stationed in South Korea. Many have already come forward to say the quotes by them, like the book, are fiction.

"The Woodward book is a scam", Trump tweeted Friday.

"These people, these are political statements to protect their jobs, totally understandable", he said. "Races that we were not even thinking about winning are now very close, or even leading", the President said in a late Saturday evening tweet.

'Dems can't stand losing.

Trump raged about the piece in the White House, calling around to confidants to vent about the disloyalty of the author and fuming that the so-called Deep State within the federal government had conspired against him, according to a person familiar with the president's views but not authorized to discuss them publicly. 'Multiple sources, but nearly every one of them has come out and discredited the claims made by Woodward. "I don't know if that's in the same class of undercutting the president's agenda but it's certainly trying to reign in" the president, Flake said.

The essay said members of the administration were running a "two-track presidency", achieving Republican policy aims while sidelining the "amoral ... impetuous, adversarial, petty and ineffective" Trump until he was out of office.
