Karunanidhi health: Is DMK chief suffering from jaundice?

His protest at Kallakudi, in Trichy, to change the name of the railway station from Dalmiapuram to Kallakudi became a turning point in his political career. For the past few years, Karunanidhi was confined to a wheelchair.

Born on June 3, 1924 at Thirukkuvalai in the Tanjore District, Karunanidhi came from a humble and poor family.

His last active presence in politics was in 2016 when he had a tracheotomy.

Murasoli's high point was its fierce and principled opposition to the Emergency when it carried a cartoon that depicted Indira Gandhi as Adolf Hitler, which was later picked up and published by Newsweek.

By his 20s, he was making his way into politics, growing close to C.N. Annadurai, the founder of the DMK.

Popularly known as "Kalaignar", Tamil for artist, Karunanidhi made his foray into politics in 1957 when he was elected to the legislative assembly of what was then known as Madras state. Parasakthi, a successful play written by Pavalar Balasundaram, was penned for the screen by Karunanidhi in 1952.
