The long-running Jack Wilshere's connection to Arsenal seems to be over with the English midfielder set to join West Ham United on Monday as the midfielder undergone a medical at the London side.

The 26-year-old - whose lack of form towards the end of the season with Arsenal led to his being omitted from the World Cup squad - signed a three year contract with the Hammers.

"I've got good memories of my childhood supporting West Ham, watching them at Upton Park".

"It feels good, it feels special", said Wilshere told the club's official website.

Wilshere has had injury problems in the past but was able to get plenty of game time for Arsenal last season.

Manuel Pellegrini has hailed new signing Jack Wilshere as a "great asset" for West Ham.

"The fans, of course - everyone knows how big West Ham's fanbase is - and especially in this new Stadium.

I had all the shirts, my brother did, I think I had John Moncur on the back of that, you know".

The head coach told the press: "Jack is a player with excellent technical ability, combined with great energy and commitment, and has proven his quality both in the Premier League and at global level".

"I want to be playing here in front of the Hammers, and my bond I've had with the club over my childhood will make it even more special".

Wilshere has 34 England caps and has scored two goals for his country, both against Slovenia in qualification for Euro 2016. Wilshere is not to be the last player West Ham sign, as they are heavily on the trails of Andriy Yarmolenko of Borussia Dortmund and a few others.
