Liverpool have made a new bid of €75m (£66.9m) for Alisson and are close to sealing a world-record deal for the Roma goalkeeper.

"And that's why we welcome a player who was wanted by a lot of big clubs, but he was clear where he wanted to play".

Chelsea also want the Brazil global but Liverpool know the time has come to move.

He claimed that with personal terms already agreed upon, a medical will soon be completed before Liverpool will officially unveil him as the world's most expensive goalkeeper.

Despite accepting that Alisson's departure would weaken Roma, Monchi denied that it demonstrated a lack of ambition from "I Lupi", instead insisting that it is just another step in improving the squad.

Belgium squad handed hero’s welcome on FIFA World Cup 2018 return
Many England fans had been hoping to give their World Cup heroes a warm welcome upon their return from Russian Federation . But he said: "I don't want to think about myself at the moment, because we are a team".

The goalkeeping situation at Liverpool has been one of the talking points for a while. Alisson spoke to the Liverpool manager, Jürgen Klopp, on Tuesday and has his heart set on a move to the Champions League finalists. "I'm sorry but I can not say any more, I'll say everything later". Now it's time to see if the team is done making moves or if it's time to pursue even more talent.

Alisson remains their top target but with Liverpool having the upper hand at the moment, Chelsea are preparing to consider other options as a replacement for Courtois.

If competing with his brother for a starting place was not hard enough, Alisson also had to contend with former Brazil shot-stopper Dida at Internacional in 2014-15.

The 34-year-old Spanish World Cup victor, who lifted 32 major trophies at Barca and made over 600 appearances for the Catalan giants, completed a big-money move to Japan in May.

Alisson is set to move to the Premier League for a world-record fee for a goalkeeper after keeping 17 clean sheets in 37 Serie A appearances last season.
