Imran Khan's PTI wins Pakistan's general elections

Spokesperson Fawad Chaudhary has said that his party will form governments in the center and the three provinces whilst in Sindh, it will play the role of a strong opposition.

A PTI spokesman on Monday night claimed Mr Khan had secured enough backers from independents and small parties to take control of the house.

An official of PTI also termed Modi's telephone call to Khan on his victory a welcoming sign to begin a new chapter in relations between the two countries.

The PTI has so far bagged 115 of the 270 National Assembly (NA) seats on which elections were held, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan, which has released results on 267 seats.

The PTI leaders who have won more than one seat will have to vacate additional seats as the law allows an individual to retain only one seat.

"We were successful and we were given a mandate", Khan said during a live broadcast, adding there was "no politician victimisation" in the contest.

Though the PPP and the PML-N have also rejected the elections results, sources in the two parties told Dawn that they would not support the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA)'s call for boycotting the oath-taking session of the National Assembly. As per the law, the President of Pakistan should convene the maiden NA session within 21 days of election to give oaths to lawmakers and elect the new speaker. "We hope that it will be a straightforward government that is free of thieves and that cares about the country", she said.

Imran khan is the messiah for curing all the ailments crumbling away Pakistan and I prayed for his party's victory (Pakistan Tehreek -e-Insaaf ) along with countless Pakistanis.

No date has yet been set for protests announced over the weekend by parties including the PML-N.
