Rescue workers in Thailand on Monday brought four boys safely out of a labyrinthine flooded cave complex where a 12-member soccer squad and their coach were trapped for more than two weeks, taking the total number rescued to eight.

The first two boys emerged Sunday night from the cave in Thailand where they have been trapped for two weeks. Gen. Anupong said that process could take several hours. Medics appeared to remove one person on a stretcher but hid the person's identity behind multiple white umbrellas. Except there was a suggestion today from one of the officials that the boys who came out today were some of the stronger ones, so it might take a little bit longer with the next group, yeah?

Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha visited the cave to inspect the rescue operation, with navy rescuers giving him a rousing cheer.

The pause comes after rescue teams freed four of the boys. Nine people remained trapped in the cave, including the team's coach, as of Monday morning. "This is D-Day", he said adding that the boys were "ready to face any challenges".

"And we will do it faster because we are afraid of the rain".

Earlier efforts to pump water out of the cave have been set back by heavy downpours. He said they would send it to Thailand Sunday evening.

"It is important to appreciate that the United Kingdom cave divers continue to work alongside the Thai Navy SEAL divers and a combination of cave divers and open water divers from many other nations", the statement said.

The operation appears to be moving swiftly despite initial reports the boys could have been stuck in the cave for up to four months. They have all been hospitalized, according to the governor.

The entire operation to get all 13 out of the cave could last two to four days, depending on weather and water conditions, army Maj.

Rescue officials said yesterday was the best day to attempt the escape because water levels at many areas inside the cave were at their lowest in 10 days, rendering most of the escape route "walkable".

Four boys of 13 trapped in a northern Thailand cave have been brought out through an underwater evacuation, a member of the rescue team said on condition of anonymity Sunday. The boys were dived out from the cave one by one, escorted by two divers at one time.

In an indication of how risky the journey can be, a former Thai navy diver died in the caves on Friday.

CNN notes: "To reach the boys, divers must navigate a series of dark, flooded tunnels for up to six hours".

How are the boys being moved?
