Fakhar Zaman overtakes Kohli, Viv Richards; fastest to 1000 ODI runs

Fakhar Zaman broke the record for the most number of runs for Pakistan in a bilateral one-day global series when he scored 85 against Zimbabwe in the fifth ODI in Bulawayo.

A confident Pakistan, 4-0 up in the ODI series, will fancy their chances of completing a 5-0 whitewash of Zimbabwe when they face the beleaguered hosts in the fifth and final one-day global here on Sunday (today). Viv Richards (West Indies), Kevin Pietersen (England), Jonathan Trott (England), Quinton de Kock (South Africa) and Babar Azam were the joint holders of this record.

He became the fastest player to score 1000 ODI runs.

All the above mentioned batting greats reached the milestone in their 21st innings but Fakhar Zaman bettered them all by getting there in his 18th innings.

Earlier, the Green Shirts won T20 tri-series after beating Australia and the hosts Zimbabwe.

It is the first time in ODI history that a batsman has managed to score more than 500 runs in a five-match bilateral series.

When Zimbabwe nudged to 20 for no loss in the first six overs, it was already their best opening partnership in the series.

"We took each match one by one and the credit goes to the players as they were focused and didn't take Zimbabwe lightly", he said.

Prince Masvaure (39) and Murray also got starts before both fell while going for big shots.
