Antonio Conte’s time as Chelsea boss could be nearing an end

Former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri has joined Chelsea on a three-year deal, replacing the outgoing Antonio Conte as head coach. It wasn't easy for me to convince you in the beginning but in the end I hope I did you proud!

Conte began his tenure with a bang, lifting the Premier League title in his first season, but an FA Cup win wasn't enough to save him even though he has the best win percentage 65.1 per cent of any of Chelsea´s managers in the Premier League era.

Uncertainty shrouded Conte's position all last season and it had looked like he would depart in February, after successive losses by a three-goal margin to Bournemouth and Watford.

Conte had been heavily linked with a summer exit from Stamford Bridge after publicly criticising the club's transfer policy, with an FA Cup victory not enough to keep him in the job.

Playmaker Fabregas "liked" a message welcoming Conte's departure on Twitter, later apologising and suggesting he had pressed the button in error.

Chelsea beat Manchester United on May 19 for Conte's second trophy of the spell, after which he said he was a "serial winner" who "can't change", citing his contract as he answered speculation it would be his final match in charge.

The results that followed were below par, and the Blues finished fifth in the Premier League and were eliminated from the Champions League by Barcelona at the last-16 stage, having suffered a 4-1 aggregate defeat.

He added that his agreement for the sale of Jorginho with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was in place "irrespective of whether or not Sarri ends up taking charge of Chelsea".

There is a strong argument that this is the most turbulent time of Abramovich's ownership.

And the Italian manager has already been snapped at Chelsea's training ground as he checks out his new players.

Chelsea have also indefinitely postponed plans to rebuild Stamford Bridge in a scheme which would cost more than £1billion.

Chelsea's first game of pre-season is the July 23 friendly with Perth Glory.

This was finally confirmed on Friday via a statement released by the Blues, who wished Conte success in the future.

Terry wrote on Instagram: "Love this man. Thanks for everything Boss".
