Xiaomi Redmi Y2 unboxing: Here is another selfie-centric smartphone

After a month's wait, the Chinese Electronics and Accessory maker, Xiaomi, has brought the Redmi S2 smartphone dubbed as Xiaomi Redmi Y2, to India, today.

Recently Xiaomi has announced new Mi 8 variants, and also announced MIUI 10 ROM and Redmi Note 5 Pro is one of the first device to receive the update.

The artificial intelligence-powered OS was unveiled in China last week, and comes with advanced photography algorithms and features such as full screen display gestures, and AI Preload, which speeds up the device. The device will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor coupled with 3GB and 32GB storage.

With connectivity options such as 4G LTE with VoLTE, dual-SIM card slots, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Global Positioning System, the smartphone runs Android 8.0 Oreo OS with MIUI 9 skin on top.

Improvements for newer aspect ratios of 18:9 and 19:9 displays - Xiaomi has carried out necessary improvements in the new version to suit new displays. Whether be it the placement of vertically-aligned dual rear cameras or the front panel, the phone looks a tad similar to the Redmi Note 5 Pro. In India, the handset is priced at Rs 9,999 for the base model and Rs 12,999 for the higher end version.

It includes a redesigned Recents app and the deep learning algorithms allow even older phones with single rear camera such as Redmi Note 3 to shoot wonderful bokeh shots.

The rear camera is 12MP+20MP with the 12MP sensor sporting f/1.5 aperture and Artificia Intelligence features. ASUS has come out with a worthy competitor (also, a couple of thousand rupees cheaper) to the Note 5 Pro. The device will be an Amazon India exclusive just like its predecessor and will officially go on sale starting 12 June at 12pm (IST). The phone has support for 4G VoLTE, dual band 802.11 ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, 3.5 mm headphone jack, A-GPS, GLONASS and micro USB port. It will be available in two variants - 3GB RAM with 32GB storage or 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. The front snapper has a 16 MP camera for rich selfies with f2.0 as aperture, additionally featuring AI Beautify 4.0, selfie timer, AI portrait selfie, Auto HDR, and face recog.

The Xiaomi Redmi Y2 is available in Rose Gold, Elegant Gold and Dark Grey colors.

Looking at the specs, you are getting a pretty decent hardware for the price. The phone comes with a 3080mAh battery pack that supports fast charging and should be good enough for most daily usage.
