Trump is not going to accompany her husband to either the G7 Summit in Quebec on June 8, or the Singapore summit with North Korea on June 12, according to Grisham.

First lady Melania Trump speaks during a discussion with students in the Blue Room of the White House in Washington, April 9, 2018.

After Trump backpedaled to the press, first taunting the content of the letter, saying "it was a very interesting letter" and even asking for bids to reveal what was inside - eight minutes later, he admitted he hadn't actually read it. As you might expect, she is dressed in black and sitting in the front row next to her husband. Some said Melania had moved back to NY or was cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller, head of the main investigation into alleged Russian election meddling that President Trump has branded a "witch hunt".

The tweet sparked a conspiracy theory that Trump himself may have written Melania's message, given that "working overtime" is a favourite phrase of the president when he tweets about the press.

In recent days, communications director Stephanie Grisham has said the first lady is "doing really well", but had declined to provide details about her condition.

Mrs. Trump joined Trump on multiple trips previous year to survey hurricane damage in parts of Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico. Her reemergence comes after weeks of rampant speculation about where she's been since undergoing surgery in mid-May.

But her Monday appearance at the White House appears to have put many of those rumors to rest.

"I'm amazed Mrs Trump has been able to do it", she told AFP. The first lady's attendance at the reception on Monday evening ends weeks of fervent speculation as to her whereabouts.
