The 26-year-old had limped out of training earlier in the week with an ankle injury, having received some rough treatment during Brazil's 1-1 draw with Switzerland.

It was looking like it might not be his, or Brazil's, day but he thought that might be about to change with 13 minutes to go when referee Bjorn Kuipers pointed to the spot as Neymar fell backwards when trying to cut across Giancarlo Gonzalez.

The world's most expensive player scored Brazil's second stoppage-time goal and was in tears at the full-time whistle.

The PSG star collapsed to the ground and burst into tears while the rest of his team-mates celebrated.

"Tite always highlights that you have to be mentally strong from start to end, and today he mentioned that even if you score in the first or last minute you still have to fight for 90 minutes, and that is what happened".

After being fouled 10 times in the opening game against Switzerland, Neymar, perhaps unfairly criticized after that match for not being a team player, was once again targeted by defenders and spent more yet time with his face in the turf.

Neymar apparently was angry with Silva for giving the ball back to Costa Rica in the 83rd minute because Neymar considered the Costa Ricans to be time wasting.

Unlike Argentina and Lionel Messi, Brazil is still in a good position to advance to the round of 16.

Both teams have met nine times so far, with Brazil winning all of these clashes and scoring 27 goals at an average of three per game, while conceding just seven strikes.

Their stout defence nearly resulted in the two teams sharing points if not for the Brazilians finding the back of the net in stoppage time of the second half. He set up the second goal for Neymar.

Do you think Costa Rica could upset Brazil in this fixture? "I was going to celebrate with them but I had to limp back!" he added.

"We want to win, it's a World Cup, but the coach is not going to risk a player's health by being dishonest to him".

The question now is how he approaches the last group game against Serbia.
