Deputy minister of Natural Resources and Environment Lê Công Thành said Việt Nam appreciated the actions of the global partners to join the country in combating plastic pollution.

World Environment Day is the United Nation's most significant day of the year for encouraging worldwide awareness and action regarding the preservation of our environment.

Around 10 percent is incinerated without producing any energy and less than 10 percent ends up in landfill.

The call is coming on the heels of the 2018 World Environment Day slated for June 5, with the theme: "Beat Plastic Pollution". He asked everyone to keep their pledge and shun use of plastic.

In line with resolutions taken at the UN General Assembly (UNGA) and UN Environmental Assembly (UNEA), the Study showed that only 21% of plastic waste is recycled.

Highlighting the menace posed by plastic, he had said that 25,940 tonnes of plastic waste is generated every day in the country with 40 per cent of plastic waste being uncollected, and 60 million tonnes of solid waste is generated in one year. "We have received a lot of positive reinforcement from employees on these measures and believe that employees will take forward these initiatives in their lives outside work as well", Pillai added.

In the same way, these plastics litter beaches with serious consequences on the environment and health. Join hands with those who are working towards it.

The most-needed step is to educate people in a larger vision of life and re- inculcate a reverence and respect for nature. "How can we reach 500,000 volunteers?"

Shah said volunteers have cleared nearly 15 million kilograms of plastic from the beach near his home in the past three weeks.

However, the report also cites a fundamental need for broader cooperation from business and private sector stakeholders, offering a roadmap for upstream solutions, including extended producer responsibility and incentives for adoption of a more circular economy approach to plastic production and consumption.

In a country where 40% of the population defecates in the open, according to the World Bank, the government's campaign to build toilets and enforce strict fines for offenders has resulted in entire districts boasting of being "open defecation free".

Also, many people are promoting the use of cloth bags over plasting and also by planting trees. India has suffered from deadly heat waves and widespread droughts, accentuated by rising temperatures. We must change the attitude, Not the climate!

There is absolutely no doubt to say that we are on the cutting edge of global plastic calamity.
