The latest speculation over Ronaldo's future was kicked off by Madrid's all-time record goalscorer talking about his time at the club in the past tense moments after the final whistle of last May's third consecutive Champions League final victory.

Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Real Madrid this summer and his decision is "irreversible", according to reports in Portugal.

Meanwhile, the Ream Madrid's long-serving full-back told reporters while readying himself for World Cup duty alongside Neymar that Ronaldo has no say on Neymar's future at Madrid.

Ronaldo has hinted at a move away from Madrid, despite confidence from those in the corridors of power that he will stay, while Neymar has been linked with a return to La Liga since trading Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2017. Real Madrid doors are always open for Neymar. The surprise resignation of Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane last week may be pushing him toward finding a new team, sooner rather than later.

Real Madrid have tabled a new contract offer to Cristiano Ronaldo.

The five time Ballon d'Or victor is also understood to be driven by the wages earned by fellow superstars Neymar and Lionel Messi. I guess someday Neymar will play in Real Madrid.

Marcelo has also suggested that Neymar will one day inherit a crown now owned by Ronaldo. "In the coming days you will have my answer to the fans, the ones who have really been on my side", he said.

Ordinarily, £131m for a player aged 33 would seem insane, but given Ronaldo's huge marketing value and the fact he's still one of the best players on the planet, it would still be an excellent deal for United if these reports were accurate.

The injury, which some feared may keep him out of the World Cup healed in time for him to fire past Croatia in a friendly at Anfield last weekend. "Thanks to them I have won so much".
