The 37-year-old reality show star made a personal plea on behalf of the 62-year-old grandmother who was given a life sentence in 1996 for a first-time nonviolent drug offense.

Trump last week pardoned conservative commentator and filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza, convicted of making illegal campaign contributions, and has recently granted pardons to the late heavyweight boxer Jack Johnson, controversial former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and Lewis "Scooter" Libby, a former top aide to then-Vice President Dick Cheney. But, over time, they formed a bond, and Kardashian was the one to break the clemency news to Johnson in a phone call with her lawyers.

Kim Kardashian West screamed and cried when she heard about her husband Kanye's controversial comments on slavery, she has revealed.

According to Mic, Johnson will shortly be released from the Aliceville Correctional Facility in Alabama and will return to her family after nearly 22 years.

The White House released a statement about the 63-year-old Johnson, a great-grandmother who has served 22 years in federal prison for what was a first-time criminal offense.

"Ms. Johnson has accepted her responsibility for her past behavior and has been a model prisoner over the past two decades".

Johnson praised Kardashian West on Wednesday night for being a "warrior" and "relentless" in advocating for her release.

The action was the latest in a recent string of pardons and other acts of clemency from Trump, and aides haves suggested that more could soon be on the way. The Johnson gathered letters of recommendations from her warden and members of Congress in their initial effort to seek clemency from President Barack Obama. "I'm a broken woman".

Johnson, an ordained minister, is also a playwright, mentor, counselor, tutor and a companion for suicidal inmates, and did not commit any disciplinary infractions in two decades in prison.

She was released hours after the White House announcement.

The reality TV star traveled to the White House for a May 30 Oval Office meeting with President Trump. Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law and advisor also met with West to discuss his efforts on prison reform.

The Can-Do Foundation, which advocates shorter sentences for non-violent drug offenders, had put Johnson at the top of its list of federal prisoners most deserving of a presidential commutation.

"Where I'm at in my life right now, just like, to go and spend my money buying material things just doesn't satisfy me the way that it used to", she said in the interview. "And in Alice's case, it is a punishment that absolutely did not fit the crime". "Hopefully, there will be more to come in the future".

In a statement, the White House noted that Johnson was a great-grandmother who had served nearly 22 years for a first-time offense. She visited the White House last week of press Johnson's case. Holley has represented celebrity clients such as Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie.
