The Spurs ace followed up his double against Tunisia with another three goals for England as the Three Lions booked their place in the World Cup knockout stage with a resounding 6-1 win over Panama.

The 24-year-old is the leading scorer at the World Cup with four goals in two games, and Neville has labelled Kane as "world class" at the tournament.

Southgate's task now will be to keep his young charges' grounded, and guard against complacency whomever they face next from Group H's quartet of Japan, Senegal, Poland and Colombia. As things stand they top the group having had less yellow cards than Roberto Martinez's men this tournament, having scored and conceded the same amount of goals.

Kane said: "I'm very proud". It's nice it's a game where we're not up to our neck in pressure. "I didn't like the start and I didn't like the goal at the end but I guess the bits in the middle were pretty good", Southgate told reporters after the game.

The win was a good dress rehearsal for England's final group game against unbeaten, in-form Belgium on Thursday (Friday NZ time). "England is totally spectacular, a attractive team", said Panama coach Hernan Dario Gomez, who went into the English changing room at half-time to congratulate Southgate.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker said England fans were justified in dreaming of winning the World Cup for the first time since 1966.

"We've got to stick together, stick to our game plan".

"It's unusual because I enjoyed the win against Tunisia more - because of the tension and the fact you get over the line", said Southgate. We won't let that take anything away from the performance though, all of the players from the goalkeeper to the forward line were fantastic as were the lads who came on. "It's not something I thought I'd do at the start of the day".

"Over the next 36 hours or so we've got to decide what our priority is".

"We're a team who want to play and you see that on the pitch from the back to the front".

Egyptian referee Ghead Grisha did his best to grant Panama some good grace here - arguably more than they should have been permitted.

"We've just got to keep building on that, show our confidence and keep playing the way we are".
