Antoine Griezmann's public decision to reject an £87million move to Barcelona has prompted an outcry of joy among Atletico Madrid supporters and derision from others.

The French worldwide has always been linked with a move away from Atletico, with the likes of Barcelona and Manchester United reportedly interested in his signing.

The announcement ends another summer of speculation surrounding Greizmann, who was on the brink of joining Manchester United last summer before Atletico were hit with a transfer embargo.

The forward, 27, said he wanted to clarify his future before France's World Cup opener against Australia on Saturday.

Griezmann has netted 112 goals for Atletico during his four years at the club, but Barcelona have been persistent in their hunt, despite being reported to Federation Internationale de Football Association over an alleged illegal approach last December.

Griezmann repeatedly laughed off questions regarding a potential move to Barcelona earlier this week before claiming at a French national team press conference that he made up his mind as to where he would be playing next season. And the Frenchman admitted it affect him and his family, though Diego Simeone did go to see him.

But then came the decision on the show, accompanied by a timed tweet on his official Twitter account.

His "decision" behind him, Griezmann can now focus on the World Cup with France. Am I staying? How much they will pay me?
