Uttar Pradesh storm toll rises to 18, fresh storm warning

At least 12 people died in thunderstorm that lashed Braj region of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.

The department has issued a forecast for May 10 to May 14, according to which light to heavy rain is expected in Tamil Nadu and Kerala along with thunderstorm in at least 13 states.

"Four deaths were reported from Etawah, three from Mathura, one death each from Agra, Aligarh, Firozabad and Kanpur", Principal Secretary Information Avanish Awasthi said.

A 15-year-old boy died when lightning struck him at Mohabbatpura village in Hathras district. The minimum temperature was recorded at 22.4 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's average, whereas the maximum is expected to hover around 35 degrees Celsius. "I spoke to the respective District Magistrates and asked them to ensure compensation to those affected by this evening", he said.

With 43 human casualties and 51 injured persons, Agra was the worst affected district.
