Shots fired at Trump golf resort in Florida, police say

Florida police shot a man early this morning after a 911 call reporting an active shooter at the Trump National Doral Golf Club, authorities said. Officials said that he was firing a handgun at chandeliers and the roof of the lobby. He walked in an started yelling about President Trump, while draping an American flag over the lobby's front desk.

"There was some gunfire prior to the officers arriving on the scene. the fire alarm was set off".

Senior officers told U.S. news a "confrontation" with a man at the resort escalated and police shot the man.

Police did not say if a weapon was recovered or offer other details on the incident.

Perez said a Doral officer received an unspecified injury.

"Our officers responded with the assistance of Miami-Dade [Police Department]", said Doral Police Chief Hernan Organvidez.

Trump famously criticised former President Barack Obama for playing too much golf during his time in office.

The Secret Service later showed up to investigate, saying they were "on the scene and working closely with our law enforcement partners".

An investigation is under way involving local police, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service, according to CBS News.

The resort, which was previously known as the Doral Resort & Spa, was bought by the Trump Organization in 2012.

In June 2016, the PGA Tour announced that the prestigious World Golf Championship hosted at the Trump National Doral since 2007 would relocate to Mexico.
