School Bus Crash in New Jersey Kills At Least 2, Reports Say

Seven adults, including the driver, and 38 students were on board the bus, Murphy said, and 43 people of those 45 were injured and hospitalized. From 2014-2016 there were more than 5,000 crashes on Route 80 in Morris County, resulting in 10 deaths and almost 1,400 injuries, according to a News 4 I-Team analysis of state data. A school district official said its superintendent was preparing a statement. The truck was registered to Mendez Trucking, of Belleville, and had "In God We Trust" emblazoned on the back of it.

A Mendez-owned dump truck driven by a driver police say had a suspended license struck and killed a French fashion stylist in NY in January 2011, according to court records. In hospital St. Joseph's Health reported that two children were taken to the emergency room. She said those two buses made it to Waterloo Village, but they were told by teachers and chaperones about a half hour later that they had to return to school because of bad weather. The dump truck driver's condition was not immediately clear.

A State Police spokesman said investigators were working to vet a range of reports, including claims gathered from social media, to determine the chain of events that ended with a fifth-grader and teacher dead.

A sign outside of the East Brook Middle School in Paramus informed people to go to the auditorium for updates on the accident. She said they were being evaluated and treated, but she did not have ages or conditions.

East Brook students were dismissed from school early Thursday and evening activities canceled. "We also thank the first responders who did a tremendous job".

"It's hard to stand here today", Tedesco said. "There is an terrible lot we just don't know", the governor said, adding details of the crash were not being released pending an investigation.

"Our hearts are broken by today's tragedy", he tweeted.
