PUBG Has Reportedly Filed A Lawsuit Against Fortnite

Over on Reddit, Epic Games shared a similar message within the Fortnite Battle Royale subreddit that explained why the challenges are being moved to Thursdays as opposed to the usual Tuesday start. In a Steam post yesterday, PUBG Corp admitted it has "fallen short" in this regard, and that it has failed to properly address player complaints about the game's performance issues.

The legal action comes as Epic Games is looking to expand Fortnite into Korea.

There's little doubt that Fortnite's mode was designed in response to PUBG's success.

While numerous games now include a Battle Royale mode, the two biggest names in the genre remain PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite Battle Royale. In the game, 100 players are dropped onto a desert island with nothing more than the shirts on their backs. Since then, "PUBG's" player count has fallen by half to about 1.5 million. "PUBG" players have complained often about frame-rate problems and slowdowns, a critical flaw in shooter games that depend on an avatar's fast and fluid motion.

Neither Epic Games nor PUBG Corp. responded to Variety's request for comment. The company is accused of copying PUBG's user interface and game items. A spokesperson for PUBG Corp said the company filed the suit in order to "protect its copyright". It is worth noting as well that PUBG actually runs on Epic Games' Unreal Engine 4. "Even once we implement every single one of the optimization opportunities listed above, we will keep looking for more chances to improve the game".
