NDC wishes Muslims well in this period of fasting and prayers (Statement)

Muslims see the prayers as a chance to exchange Eid greetings and meet with their neighbours, family and friends.

Although Ramadan is always on the same day of the Islamic calendar, the date on the Gregorian calendar varies from year to year, since the Gregorian calendar is a solar calendar and the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar. Where the new moon (that of Ramadan) is sighted on the 29th of Sha'baan (May 15), Muslims are expected to commence fasting the next day.

The announcement was made by the Grand Mufti of Australia, Abdul Azim Al Afifi on the council's official Facebook page.
