After signing for Internacional in 2010, Fred soon emerged as a first-team player the following year and ended up making 33 appearances for the club, scoring seven times and registering seven assists.

Fred now plays for Shakhtar Donetsk and has become one of the most sought after players in Europe after his displays over the last two seasons for the Ukrainian outfit, who reached the Champions League Round of 16 last term.

Fred's agent, former Arsenal star Gilberto Silva, already flew to England a week ago to begin putting plans in place for a transfer.

Guardiola met with City's CEO Ferran Soriano and sporting director Txiki Begiristain in December and decided that they needed cover and competition for Fernandinho, another Brazilian signed from Shakhtar in 2013.

The move for the midfielder is not a surprising one.

And AC Milan are ready to sign him on a free transfer, with Fellaini reportedly telling United he has no intention of staying.

Champions League final: Sergio Ramos says Mohamed Salah is merely 'in fashion'
And it appears Carragher couldn't help himself in getting caught up in the excitement ahead of Saturday evening's final. So while he is cool, he tries to make his players work and follow the pathway where he wants them to be.

Fred is now in Brazil training with the national team ahead of this summer's World Cup, but will crucially be in England in just over a weeks time as Brazil play Croatia at Anfield, a ground less than 30 miles from Manchester United's Carrington training base. For how much? I can not say so now.

"United talked to my staff and Shakhtar".

"It's an honour to be on the radar of great European coaches", added Fred.

Shakhtar want to cash in on the talented midfielder and United will be happy to have him.

Just last month the Manchester United manager said he was only going to invest a "basic" amount of money into his squad this summer. Fred himself confirmed Mourinho's interest recently by saying his agents were contacted after a January move to Manchester City collapsed.

As for Alderweireld, Tottenham appear resigned to losing the 29-year-old.
