LeBron James produced another epic playoff performance Friday as the Cleveland Cavaliers stayed alive in the National Basketball Association playoffs with a 109-99 victory over the Boston Celtics.

During the third quarter, James asserted his dominance in a pretty significant way, owning Terry Rozier with a vicious chase-down block on a would-be layup attempt.

After a season full of turmoil, that included a major revamp of the roster at February's trade deadline with six players offloaded and four acquired, this is arguably seen as James' greatest achievement ever.

James has played more minutes and scored more points and had to do more than any other player on any team in these playoffs. And you've got to be able to combat that and be just as solid and just as aggressive on the offensive end.

How about Larry Nance Jr., who had 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Still down four points with almost seven minutes left in the game, Tatum made a decision to take things into his own hands.

He added: "We've been counted out a long time this season".

Pushed by a raucous crowd that wasn't so confident a few days ago, the Cavs held off Boston's comeback in the fourth quarter and squared a series that is now a best-of-three.

LeBron James again lead the way with 46 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists, but it was the rest of the Cavs who stood tall. Bomani Jones has talked about how different Cleveland fans are with their defensiveness and willingness to go over the top whenever someone attacks us.

His victory, the Cavaliers ' traditionally required LeBron James - the star forward for 46 minutes, scored 46 points, converting on 17 of 33 shots from the game, including 5 of 7 three-pointers. With the rookie Tatum and second-year Jaylen Brown, Boston established itself as the team of the future in the East.

Make it 8 straight for LeBron James.

It was James with four reserves, and they outscored Boston, 26-12. Not typically one to be outdone, it was James from start to finish in Game 6, and it's fair to assume there will be more to come. "I promise", he said, drawing laughs from media members.

"We have an opportunity to play for a championship", James said.

"I love the way we defended and for the most part if you take away Game 1 and the second half of Game 2, we've been defending at a high clip", James said.

After taking a 25-20 lead after one quarter, the Celtics took a six-point edge, 30-24, early in the second.

Playing without Kevin Love, the Cavaliers rallied back from an eight-point first-quarter deficit.

Quotable - LeBron James, on what it'll take to win a Game 7 in Boston ... A CliffsNotes version of the first quarter: Smith clanked a jumper off the side of the backboard, Love clunked heads with Jayson Tatum, and Jaylen Brown (15 points) nearly outscored Cleveland by himself as Boston opened a 25-20 lead.
