An American man has eaten his 30,000th Big Mac this week, in the same McDonald's restaurant where he first tasted the sandwich in back in 1972.

Don Gorske, " 6 4, ate the record-extending double-patty sandwich at a native McDonald's restaurant also says he's eaten so many simply because he loves burgers.

This record means that he has eaten at least one Big Mac per day since 1972.

He has actually been the record holder for some time now, as Guinness World Records officially documented him at 28,788 in 2016.

Don Gorske has eaten a Big Mac almost every day since May 1972.

The Associated Press contributed to the record. On the day that McDonald's founder Ray Kroc died in 1984, Don ate Big Mac number 5,978.

Gorske, tall and lanky, has a meticulous memory and a penchant for details. He said he thought he had a big mac saved in the freezer but was mistaken.

Well I think we should direct that question to Don Gorske.

Gorske estimates that it took him 365 days to consume the first 1,000 Big Macs.

As for his health, Don poo-poos the naysayers and health brigade, saying that at his last medical check-up, he had low cholesterol and "perfect" blood pressure.

He even has the day when McDonald's switched to shredded lettuce marked down: February 10, 1999.

In 2003 Ellen DeGeneres requested Gorske's cholesterol be checked.

He said at the time he might eat his 30,001st while watching himself on TV. Another day he missed was the day his mother died. In 2006, he crossed the finish line of the San Diego marathon with his 21,387th Big Mac in hand.

The longest Don has gone without eating a Big Mac has been eight days. That day was April 27, 1988.
