"The Last Man on Earth" has been canceled after four seasons at Fox, Variety has confirmed.

The policy comedy follows Detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and the rest of the unique detectives and officers at the NYPD's 99th Precinct. This season, Brooklyn Nine-Nine averaged 2.7 million viewers each week compared to the previous season's weekly average of 2.9 million viewers.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine was created by Dan Goor and Michael Schur (the creator of Parks and Recreation and The Good Place for NBC). Andre Braugher played his literal and highly intelligent boss, Captain Raymond Holt. That same year (well technically 2014) it won the Golden Globe for Best TV Series - Musical or Comedy and the following season it was granted the coveted post-Super Bowl spot.

Especially give that despite lower Neilsen ratings, the series has built up quite a dedicated following thanks to it's signature brand of comedy, and affinity for diversity throughout its storytelling.

'Brooklyn Nine Nine just got cancelled [sic] can't even breathe rn @FOXTV u guys just made the biggest mistake ever. Right now nearly 52,000 tweets have been posted mourning the loss of a genuinely delightful hilarious show.

Everyday fans were just as vocal, if not more so. The main cast has multiple POC and proper Latinx and LGBTQ+ representation. This show's cancellation is especially unfortunate given that its Season 4 finale ended on a cliffhanger. It's not that far-fetched of an idea.

Though there are a ton of people involved in making network schedules for upcoming and departing shows, Fox really dropped the ball here.

Beyond Hulu, there's another potential home out there in TBS given that they air episodes of the show; meanwhile, their programming head in Kevin Reilly was at Fox at the time in which Brooklyn Nine-Nine first started up.
